What is Microneedling: Microneedling or ‘Collagen Induction Therapy’ is a treatment that tightens, lifts and rejuvenates the skin using a pen like device with tiny needles that creates micro punctures in the skin penetrating the dermal layer. This ‘micro trauma’ is done to stimulate the production of collagen, by using the skin’s natural ability to heal itself. This new healthy collagen improves the appearance of wrinkles, scars, stretch marks, age spots, etc.
About the Vistapen: We use the Vistapen, a microneedling device which uses single use micro-needle tips. The tip oscillates and glides over the skin to deliver up to 1300 micropunctures per second, very precisely maneuvering . around delicate facial contours and easily treating difficult areas such as nose, eyes, eyelids and lip surfaces.
The tips are disposable and therefore there is no risk of cross-contamination.
There is minimal discomfort as a topical numbing cream is applied before the procedure.
Also there is minimal downtime with this procedure which can effectively treat the face, head and body.
The sites can also be used as micro-channels that carry topical nutrients used during the treatment deep into skin layers for an enhanced effect ( as with prp—see below) .
The Vistapen™ is able to produce similar, if not better, results when compared to a fractional laser, without the risk of hyper or hypo-pigmentation, as well as other side effects and downtime associated with these effective, but potentially damaging ablative treatments.
For lasting and significant improvement of most skin conditions we recommend 4 treatments 4 to 6 weeks apart. However more treatments may be needed for deep scars, stretch marks or certain other conditions. Most people see results after the very first treatment. Your skin should continue to improve over the next 6 to 12 months after the course is completed.
Microneedling with PRP: Microneedling can be combined with PRP (Plasma Rich Platelets) to achieve even more amazing results with minimal down time. Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy takes components from the patient’s own blood and infuse them into the skin through the micro channels created by micro-needling procedure. PRP improves the texture and color of skin, by encouraging the growth of new tissue.
Is there any downtime?
Some redness, itching and swelling of the skin are expected and usually lasts 2 days. This is even reduced when prp is used. We advise against sun exposure, using skin irritants and intense exercise for 2 days post procedure. Most people can return to normal activities immediately after treatment. We recommend waiting until for 2 days to apply make-up.
